Fundraisers

The Washington DC Alumnae Chapter (WDCAC) hosts fundraisers and seeks sponsorships with community partners to help fund its scholarships to students and various programs that serve to benefit the residents of the District of Columbia. One of the chapter’s signature fundraisers is its Distinguished Men Cookin’ with the Deltas, now in its 15th year and scheduled for May 4, 2019, at Trinity Washington University. This annual event has raised over $185,000 for scholarships and other community programs.

This fall WDCAC will introduce its newest fundraiser, a Sunday Best Gospel Brunch. Scheduled for November 18 at Martin’s Crosswinds, this inaugural fundraiser will feed the mind, body and spirit as WDCAC comes together with the community for a faith- and fun-filled event.

Other recent fundraisers have included WDCAC’s first-ever student anthology titled My Voice Matters: Telling Our Stories and Making a Difference that features over 40 young writers who share stories that speak to the issues they face daily as well as pop-up retail events at Alex and Ani’s National Harbor location that have provided opportunities to shop for a cause for scholarships and programs through the purchase of unique pieces of jewelry.

Through its fundraising efforts, WDCAC has been able to implement programs such as:

o Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully), which is designed to help young women, between the ages of 14 and 18, to realize their dreams

o EMBODI, a self‐empowering initiative targeted to young men ages 11 to 18

o Entrepreneurship Expo – providing tools and techniques for starting and growing a business

o World AIDS Day Awareness Programs

o Physical and Mental Health Programs

As WDCAC looks ahead to celebrating 100 years of service in 2021, the chapter has kicked off a “Pearls for Life” Capital Campaign with a goal of raising over $225,000 for scholarships and programs.
