Empowering Voters Through Civic Engagement

From Forums to Fellowship, WDCAC Builds Ballot Power Across Generations

During the 2024 election year, the Washington DC Alumnae Chapter (WDCAC) led dynamic efforts to educate and mobilize voters across the District. From community forums to voter outreach events, our chapter reinforced its commitment to civic engagement, sisterhood, and public service.

As part of our Barbara Powell Johnson Monday Night Politics Series, the Social Action Committee hosted a virtual forum in October exploring DC statehood, Project 2025, and the stakes of the 2024 election. The panel featured Fatima Gross Graves (National Women’s Law Center), Dr. Keneshia Grant (Howard University), Anne Stauffer (League of Women Voters DC), and Janel George (Georgetown Law), moderated by Soror Kendra Wiley. The conversation provided crucial insights for residents navigating the upcoming election cycle.

At various locations throughout the District, WDCAC held registration drives including the DC State Fair at Franklin Park, the MLK Library, and during our Dining with the Deltas event at Ledo Pizza in Brookland. The chapter also hosted a nonpartisan phone banking and letter-writing event with the Center for Common Ground. On Election Day, WDCAC volunteers proudly served at our two adopted vote centers in Ward 8—supporting fair, accessible voting in the community.

The Collegiate Connection Committee also helped build ballot power through a spirited Stroll to the Poll event in October, held in partnership with the Federal City Alumnae Chapter (FCAC). The event brought together collegiate Sorors from local campuses, reinforcing the importance of civic participation and voter readiness during the 2024 election year. Sorors checked their voter status, registered onsite, and heard directly from Social Action Committee members on the power of voting in every election—not just presidential ones.

From engaging educational forums to joyful moments of fellowship, WDCAC’s fall election activities reflected the strength and unity of our sisterhood in action.
