October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Delta Sigma Theta is committed to honoring our sister survivors and those in our communities still courageously battling this disease. We recognize the strength and resilience of these women, and men, whose bravery continues to inspire us.

It is especially important for us to acknowledge that Black women are disproportionately affected by breast cancer, with higher mortality rates compared to other racial groups. This makes early detection and proactive healthcare even more critical in our communities.

Delta Sigma Theta remains steadfast in its mission to support and uplift our communities, particularly when it comes to addressing the health disparities that impact Black women. Let’s continue to raise awareness, promote early detection, and work toward a safer and healthier future for those impacted by breast cancer.

  • For this years National Hazing Prevention Week the Washington DC Alumnae chapter embraces the theme “Violets Over Violence,” symbolizing the delicate yet resilient nature of unity over coercion. With their subtle beauty and quiet strength, violets are a poignant reminder of the power of gentleness and compassion in fostering genuine bonds.

By choosing violets over violence, we commit to building communities where every person can thrive without fear of humiliation, harm, or coercion. Together, let us cultivate a culture of acceptance, where differences are celebrated and kindness reigns supreme.

Join us as we raise our voices, not in aggression, but in solidarity. Together, we can create a world free from the shadows of hazing, where the gentle bloom of violets symbolizes the strength of our collective resolve against violence.
