On Saturday, May 3, 2025, the Washington DC Alumnae Chapter (WDCAC) hosted its third signature event in the Heart & Sole fundraising series—the Sneaker Derby—at the National Press Club. 

First introduced as the Heart & Sole Sneaker Ball and Auction in 2023, the event has grown into a signature tradition that celebrates service with style.

Guests showed up in full Derby fashion—decked out in fascinators, suits, and stylish sneakers—ready to dance, mingle, and support a powerful cause. The festive afternoon included vibrant music, delicious Kentucky Derby-themed bites, and high-energy fellowship that transformed the dance floor into a joyful tribute to Delta sisterhood.

At the heart of the celebration was the “Run for the Roses” Digital Silent Auction. Attendees and supporters engaged in friendly bidding wars on exclusive items such as vacation packages, original artwork, autographed best-selling novels, cultural event tickets, and seats to popular local sporting events.

The auction was a grand success, reinforcing WDCAC’s commitment to funding scholarships and sustaining vital service projects across Washington, D.C.

This year’s event also coincided with the Eastern Region’s inaugural Love My Sister Day, adding another layer of purpose and unity to the occasion. The Sneaker Derby proved that when service meets style, the result is unforgettable impact—and lasting sisterhood.
