Thanksgiving Food Drive

As we prepare for the holiday season, we have an opportunity to support 74 unhoused families from LaSalle-Backus Elementary School, a District of Columbia Public School that serves a high needs population.  The WDCAC Community Mobilization Committee is requesting donations of Thanksgiving food baskets and gift cards for families at LaSalle-Backus Elementary School. By supporting the Thanksgiving Food Drive, we can help ensure that families in one of DC’s most underserved communities have access to the nutritious meals they deserve during the holiday season.

Together we can reach our goal to provide complete meal packages for 74 families. Let’s make this Thanksgiving memorable for families at LaSalle-Backus Elementary!

How You Can Contribute:

We are collecting donations of new reusable grocery bags filled with the following items:
– 1 bag of rice (5 lb)
– 2 cans cranberry sauce (16 oz.)
– 2 boxes mac and cheese (7.25 oz.)
– 2 dry stuffing mix boxes (6 oz.)
– 2 cans chicken or turkey gravy (10.5 oz.)
– 2 cartons chicken or turkey broth (32 oz.)
– 4 cans green beans (14.5 oz.)
– 2 packages of prepackaged cookies (nut-free)
– 1 iced tea or lemonade mix (19 oz.)
– 1 package hot chocolate with marshmallows
– 1 aluminum foil roll (75 ft.)
– 1 foil roasting pan (17×12)
– A handwritten note card or greeting card
– 1 $25 grocery store gift card (optional)

Important: Please ensure all items are nut-free.

Volunteers Needed: We also need volunteers to assist with donation distribution. If you are available to help distribute the packages at the school on Monday, November 25, 2024 please email community@wdcacdst.org. Please note, you must be Delta Risk Management certified in order to distribute.
