Global Impact Through Local Action
Our Global Awareness Agenda: Service That Transcends Borders
WDCAC’s global engagement efforts span a wide range of focus areas—from health equity and education to environmental justice and cultural diplomacy. Our programs continue to evolve in response to the most pressing needs of communities around the world, while remaining rooted in service, sisterhood, and sustainable change.
These focus areas shape our agenda and ground our global engagement in purposeful service and lasting impact.
- Health Access & Equity – Promoting wellness by supporting HIV/AIDS awareness, providing sanitation systems, distributing sanitary products, and advocating for health equity in underserved communities.
- Educational Empowerment – Improving educational access through scholarships, school supplies, and support for learning environments—from classroom essentials to clean water—so every child can learn with dignity.
- Environmental & Cultural Stewardship – Raising awareness of environmental justice issues through local cleanups with global impact, and fostering cultural exchange to deepen global understanding and community connection.
WDCAC Global Initiatives & Partnerships
At WDCAC, service knows no boundaries. Our commitment extends beyond local and national concerns to address urgent global challenges. Through international initiatives and partnerships, we uplift vulnerable communities, deliver critical relief, and promote sustainable solutions to pressing global issues. These efforts reflect our core values of service, sisterhood, and scholarship—put into action on a global scale.
I CAN FLY International Fundraiser
WDCAC proudly supports I CAN FLY International, a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and educating vulnerable youth in Kenya. The organization combats child exploitation, early marriage, and extreme poverty through schools, rescue centers, and enrichment programs. Its scholars program also empowers top-performing students to pursue higher education opportunities in the U.S.—helping build sustainable futures through education and advocacy.
67 Blankets For Mandela
In honor of Nelson Mandela International Day, WDCAC participates in the global 67 Blankets initiative, contributing crocheted, knitted, or quilted blankets toward the goal of 6,700 donations. These blankets are distributed to local shelters, offering warmth and comfort to those in need while honoring Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy of justice, equality, and compassion.
Water and Education International (WEI)
WDCAC sponsors and advocates for WEI’s latrine project in Haiti, which delivers critical sanitation infrastructure to rural communities. This initiative promotes better hygiene, reduces the spread of disease, and improves quality of life in underserved areas.
WDCAC Local Programs with Global Impact
WDCAC supports global awareness through community-based initiatives that reflect our commitment to health equity, environmental justice, and sustainable change—demonstrating that meaningful impact begins right here at home.
Environmental Conservation
Environmental justice begins at home. WDCAC actively participates in Earth Day activities, including cleanup efforts in the Anacostia Watershed, to raise awareness of how local pollution has global consequences—especially for communities disproportionately impacted by environmental neglect. This initiative underscores our commitment to sustainability and to fostering a healthier, more equitable local environment.
World AIDS Day
In partnership with Whitman-Walker Health and CVSHealth, WDCAC provides free HIV testing and educational outreach in the Washington, DC community. This program raises awareness about HIV/AIDS, reduces stigma, and promotes access to critical healthcare services. By addressing this global health issue at the local level, we contribute to a healthier, more equitable community and support the global fight to end the HIV epidemic.
International Day of the Girl Child
Recognized worldwide on October 11 and established by the United Nations, International Day of the Girl Child highlights the unique challenges girls face and promotes their empowerment and human rights. WDCAC supports this mission through activities and advocacy that advance education, health, and leadership opportunities—breaking down barriers and inspiring the next generation.
Continue the Global Conversation
WDCAC’s commitment to international awareness and involvement is reflected in these impactful initiatives, which bridge the gap between local service and global need. Our efforts stand as a testament to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s mission to uplift and empower communities around the world—making a lasting difference in the lives we serve.
