SOCIAL ACTION

A Legacy of Advocacy

As voter suppression, healthcare inequities, and economic disparities continue to challenge our communities, WDCAC remains steadfast in promoting political awareness and civic engagement. Guided by the strategic priorities of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s National Social Action Commission, we actively empower citizens to exercise their voting rights and fully engage in the democratic process. Through our Social Action programs, we address key issues impacting Washington, DC and beyond—working to ensure that all citizens have the opportunity to participate meaningfully in our democracy.

Forward with Fortitude

On March 3, 1913—just six weeks after its founding—several courageous Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. made history by marching in the historic Suffragist Parade in Washington, DC, proudly carrying the Sorority’s banner. This bold and powerful act of civic engagement became Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.’s first public service effort and cemented its enduring commitment to social justice, equality, and amplification of marginalized voices. More than a century later, that legacy lives on as the Sorority continues to lead the charge for equity and empowerment, particularly in the political and civic arenas.
