YOUTH
Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders
WDCAC proudly champions educational excellence and youth development, offering impactful programs aligned with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated’s Educational Development initiatives. Through annual scholarships and targeted youth programs, WDCAC provides resources and support to foster the academic, social, and personal growth of students across Washington, DC. Our programs—including the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS, and EMBODI—are designed to cultivate strong, confident, and community-minded young leaders who are prepared to thrive in today’s global society.
Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy: Guiding Girls into Leadership
WDCAC proudly supports young girls aged 11 to 14 through the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, helping them embrace their strength and leadership potential. Since its inception in 1996, this signature Sorority program has guided girls into womanhood, providing educational support and professional guidance with a focus on preparing them for the 21st century. Through Delta Academy, girls are empowered to:
- Excel academically and cultivate a love for learning
- Enhance their decision-making, communication skills, and talents
- Compete and lead in a global society
- Become proactive agents of change in their communities
Delta Academy workshops aim to increase self-esteem, develop leadership skills, and foster financial literacy and civic responsibility. Through these initiatives, WDCAC is committed to shaping young women who are confident, capable, and ready to contribute to their communities and beyond.

Dr. Jeanne L. Noble Delta GEMS: Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully
WDCAC invests in the growth and success of teenage girls through Delta GEMS, a transformative program targeting African American girls aged 14-18. Launched in 2004, Delta GEMS expands upon Delta Academy’s mission by providing mentorship, education, and tools to help young women reach their fullest potential. The program is designed to:
- Instill the drive for academic excellence
- Provide tools to sharpen and enhance life skills for academic and personal success
- Assist girls in setting and achieving goals for high school, college, and beyond
- Create compassionate, community-oriented young women through service-learning projects
Through GEMS workshops, participants engage in activities such as college and career planning, financial management, health and wellness, social media literacy, and community service. The program helps young women develop critical thinking, goal setting, and leadership skills that will serve them as they navigate adulthood.
Delta GEMS thrives with the help of committed volunteers and community partners who provide mentorship, resources, and opportunities for growth.

EMBODI: Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence
WDCAC is dedicated to empowering young African American males through EMBODI, a national program addressing the unique challenges facing Black boys and young men. EMBODI seeks to redirect the focus on the social, emotional, and educational barriers that prevent African American males from reaching their full potential. By providing mentorship, advocacy, and resources, WDCAC strives to bridge these gaps and set young men on the path to success.
Through mentoring, tutoring, and discussions on life skills, college admissions, financial literacy, and civic engagement, EMBODI offers holistic support that nurtures independence and leadership in young males. In collaboration with community partners, EMBODI equips these young men with the tools they need to excel academically, socially, and emotionally, while also promoting community service and civic responsibility
